titleOfInvention Stabilized silver halide emulsions
abstract 604,153. Photographic material containing anti-fogging substances. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1945, No. 26333. Convention date, Oct. 6, 1944. [Class 98 (ii)] A photographic silver halide emulsion contains or is in contact with a layer (e.g. a pre. paration, backing, intermediate, subbing, protective, or baryta layer) containing an antifogging mixture comprising a sulphinic or seleninic acid or salt thereof and a polysulphide of the structural formula wherein Y represents the atoms to complete an aromatic or heterocyclic ring and n is a whole number greater than 1. Polysulphides specified are diphenyl disulphide, trisulphide, and tetrasulphide, 2 : 2<1>-di-aminodiphenyl disulphide, sodium p : p<1>-diphenyl disulphide disulphonate, sodium o : o<1> and m : m<1>-diphenyldisulphide dicarboxylate, 2 : 2<1> : 4 : 4<1>-tetranitrodiphenyl disulphide, o : o<1>-ditolyl disulphide, trisulphide, and tetrasulphide, p : p<1>- ditolyl disulphide, dibenzyl disulphide, bis- (mercaptothiodiazole)-disulphide, pyridine disulphide, and piperidine trisulphide and tetrasulphide. The mixture may be added to the emulsion during mixing, during ripening, or immediately prior to coating. Examples are given of the addition to gelatin silver halide emulsions of mixtures of (a) sodium benzenesulphinate and diphenyl disulphide ; (b) sodium benzeneseleninate and ditolyl disulphide ; (c) of sodium beneseleninate and bis-(mercaptothiodiazole) disulphide ; and (d) of a benzenesulphinate and benzyl disulphide. Specification 441,625 is referred to.
