abstract | A solid composition for hardening formaldehyde deficient resorcinol - formaldehyde resins comprises a mixture of a solid formaldehyde polymer, a non-deliquescent powdered base selected from the group consisting of oxides, hydroxides and carbonates of the alkaline earth metals and alkali metal carbonates, and an inert filler the proportion of the base being in the range of two to twenty per cent by weight and the proportion of inert filler being in the range of twenty to fifty per cent by weight of the total of these three components. A suitable composition comprises paraformaldehyde 60 per cent, Hard Wood flour 30 per cent, Magnesia 10 per cent, and one part of the composition may be added to five parts of resorcinol-formaldehyde resin.
