titleOfInvention Photographic silver halide emulsions
abstract Hydrophilic synthetic linear polycarbonamides contain recurring intralinear oxygen atoms in the ratio of one oxygen atom to each 7 to 16 carbon atoms, and recurring intralinear amide groups, and are insoluble in water at 20 DEG C., but soluble to the extent of at least 5 per cent in water containing 40 per cent ethanol at 70 DEG C. The polyamide-forming components may be suitably chosen, or two polyamides of low molecular weight may be interpolymerized until the desired molecular weight is attained. Polymerizates of 3 : 31-diaminodipropyl ether with sebacic or suberic acid, of diglycollic acid with decamethylenediamine, and of bis-aminopropoxy-ethane with sebacic or adipic acid, interpolymerizates of triglycoldiammonium adipate with 15 to 60 mols. per cent of hexamethylenediammonium adipate and of the bisaminopropoxy-ethane diglycollic acid salt with 43 to 73 mols. per cent of hexamethylenediammonium adipate, and polyesteramides from glycols, dibasic acids and diamines are specified. Hexamethyleneadipamide / triglycoladipamide interpolymer is prepared by heating together in a sealed tube the adipic acid salts of hexamethylenediamine and triglycoldiamine at 200 DEG to 210 DEG C. for two hours, then one hour at 256 DEG C. at atmospheric pressure in a nitrogen atmosphere, and finally for one hour at 256 DEG C. under a vacuum of 1 mm. The polyamide from bis-(aminopropoxy)-ethane adipate is similarly prepared. Specifications 487,734, 497,463, 497,698, 512,542, 535,341, 538,100, 578,666 and 23690/39 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) are referred to.
