titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to low-temperature olefinic polymerization processes
abstract In the continuous process of low temperature copolymerization of iso-olefines and polyolefines using a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, whilst the addition of catalyst is continued there is added intermittently ammonia, a substituted ammonia or an amine as catalyst neutralizing agent. Usually the reaction is carried out between -10 DEG and -160 DEG C. in a low-freezing solvent and the catalyst solution is added in a continuous stream to the reaction mixture. Optionally a diluent may also be present, specified are ethyl or methyl or methylene chlorides, dichlor-fluor-methane or carbon disulphide. Listed amines are methyl, ethyl, propyl, di-n-butyl, phenyl b -naphthyl, b -naphthyl amines and hexamethyl tetramine. Iso-olefines specified are isobutylene, 2-methyl butene-1 and 2-methyl pentene-1; polyolefines having 4-14 carbon atoms, e.g. isoprene, butadiene, piperylene, dimethyl butadiene, dimethallyl and myrcene.
