titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the preparation of complex lead salts |
abstract | Complex lead salts are made by mixing lead monoxide, phthalic acid or anhydride, and a monobasic saturated aliphatic acid in the presence of water, preferably between temperatures of 15 DEG and 100 DEG C. According to the proportions used, salts are formed corresponding to two formulae:-4 Pb C6 H4 (COO)2 . Pb (Cn H(2n-1) O2)2 PbO.2 Pb C6 H4(COO)2 . Pb (Cn H(2n-1 O2)2 Aliphatic acids specified are acetic, propionic, butyric, isobutyric, caproic, caprylic, stearic, and 2-ethylbutyric acid. The resulting salts may be used as pigments either alone or in combination with each other or with lead phthalate. When the aliphatic acid is soluble in water, it is preferable to carry out the reaction between 75 DEG and 95 DEG C, but where it is more or less insoluble, it is better to charge the reactants into a ball or pebble mill at a temperature of 15 DEG to 25 DEG C. A number of examples are given. |
