titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to self-sealing container for alcohols
abstract A composition containing a polyvinyl acetal or ketal having 10-40 per cent hydroxy groups and one or more organic non-acidic ethanol-soluble modifiers boiling above 200 DEG C. at 760 mm. and compatible with the vinyl resin is used as a sealant interlayer in a compound fabric (see Group VIII) for self-sealing containers for alcohols. Acetals and ketals specified are those obtained from polyvinyl alcohol and acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, benzaldehyde, acetone, diethyl ketone and methyl ethyl ketone. Modifiers specified are butanesulphonamide, N - (beta-hydroxy - ethyl) formamide, N-ethyl-o- and p-toluene sulphonamides, morpholine formamide, cyclohexyl formamide, allyl glycol amide, ethyl lactamide, dibutyl sebacate, dibutyl phthalate, di-(beta-butoxyethyl) glutarate, beta-methoxyethyl acetyl ricinoleate, butoxyethyl phthalate, triethylene glycol di-(2-ethyl) butyrate, di-methoxyethyl adipate, butoxyethyl levulinate, di-(beta-butoxyethoxyethyl) glutarate, dimethoxytetraethylene glycol, the formal of monomethoxy diethylene glycol, the reaction products of glycerol with furfural or cyclohexanone, glycerol, 2-nitro-2-ethyl-1,3-propanediol, tetraethylene glycol, p-tert-butyl phenoxyethanol, castor oil and castor oil monoglyceride. Other substances which may be added are rosin, hydrogenated rosin, rosin turpentine resins, terpene-maleic anhydride, phenol formaldehyde, polyvinyl acetate, ethyl cellulose, urea-formaldehyde and coumarone-indene resins, alkoxymethyl nylons and carbon black. In one of the examples, a polyvinyl butyral of 20 per cent hydroxy content, dibutyl sebacate, N-ethyl-o-and p-toluene sulphonamides, rosin turpentine resin, N-methoxy-methyl polyhexamethyleneadipamide and butanol modified melamineformaldehyde resin are mixed together, sheeted and cured. The compositions may be cured by heating, preferably with dimethylolurea, dimethylolurea dimethyl ether, urea-formaldehyde resins, melamine-formaldehyde resins or bis-methoxymethyl uron.
