titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to coating compositions and to fabrics coated therewith
abstract Coating compositions for rendering fabrics resistant to poison gases, solvents, &c. comprise mixtures of an alkyd resin, a polyvinyl acetal resin, and a monohydric alcohol-modified urea formaldehyde resin. The coating after application to the fabric is cured by heating for 1 hour at 240-260 DEG F. The coated fabrics may be used as gas capes, tarpaulins, upholstery, ventilating tubes, raincoats, hospital sheeting, cable sheatss. Examples of coating compositions are given in the Specification. Castor or cottonseed oil-modified alkyd resins are employed and clay, mica, titanium oxide, barytes, ultramarine blue, chrome yellow, red iron oxide, oxide, whiting, talc, lamp black are used as fillers and pigments. Paraffin wax, dicapryl phthalate, dibutyl ammonium oleate, dibutyl cellosolve phthalate or sebacate are specified as plasticisers and benzene, toluol, xylol, naphthas esters and ketones as solvents. The urea resin may be produced as described in Specification 483,399. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the urea resin may be replaced by alcohol-modified melamine-formaldehyde resins or by dimethylol urea ethers of monohydric alcohols. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
