titleOfInvention Improvements in the manufacture of stabilized vinyl resins
abstract Phenoxy lead stearate is prepared by heating together litharge and phenyl stearate or a mixture of phenol and stearic acid till a clear melt is obtained and crystallizing from benzene or toluene. Toloxy lead stearate and oleate and xyloxy lead stearate and palmitate may be similarly prepared. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preparation of phenoxy lead oleate, ricinoleate, laurate, carnabate and undecylate, chulorophenoxy lead undecylate, chlorotoloxy lead oleate naphthoxy lead palmitate and linoleate, xyloxy lead montanate and toloxy lead hypogeate and myrcitate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A resinous composition comprises a polymer or copolymer of a vinyl halide admixed with a heat and light stabilizer of the formula <FORM:0587444/IV/1> in which Ar is phenyl, tolyl or xylyl and R is an aliphatic radical containing at least 9 carbon atoms, e.g. palmitic, oleic and stearic. Polyvinyl chloride and bromide and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, chloracetate, propionate, chlorpropionate and butyrate; methyl, benzyl and chlorbenzyl acrylates; methyl and ethyl methacrylate; methyl ethacrylate; methyl chloracrylate; and with vinyl acetate and ethyl methacrylate are specified. Stabilizers specified are phenoxy, toloxy and xyloxy lead stearate, toloxy lead oleate and xyloxy lead palmitate. Mixing may be effected by milling or by solution in a common solvent. Plasticizers, e.g. methyl pentachlorostearate and chlorinated diphenyl, pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide and solvents may be added. Phenoxy lead stearate is prepared by heating together litharge and phenyl stearate or a mixture of phenol and stearic acid till a clear melt is obtained and crystallizing from benzene or toluene. Toloxy lead stearate and oleate and xyloxy lead stearate and palmitate may be similarly prepared. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preparation and use of phenoxy lead oleate, ricinoleate, laurate, carnaubate and undecylate, chlorphenoxy lead undecylate, chlorotoloxy lead oleate, naphthoxy lead palmitate and linoleate, xyloxy lead montanate and toloxy lead hypogeate and myristate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
