titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the flame-proofing of textile materials
abstract 586,367. Fireproofing textiles, BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Oct. 11, 1944, No. 19613. Convention date, Oct. 13, 1943. [Class 140] Textile materials comprising fibres having a basis of an organic derivative of cellulose are flame-proofed by the incorporation of thiourea. The materials may be yarns, fabrics or staple fibre of cellulose esters such as the acetate, propionate or butyrate; mixed cellulose esters such as acetate-propionate or acetate-butyrate; or cellulose ethers such as benzyl cellulose. The thiourea may be applied to the textile material in water or aqueous alcoholic solution by methods such as padding or immersion and solvent is removed as by heated air, or, in the case of fabrics by a hot tower or tenter frame. The solution may contain an inorganic ammonium salt such as the chloride, bromide, borate or diammonium phosphate, and when used for treatment of fabric the solution may also contain a di-ammonium alkyl phosphate, such as the methyl, ethyl, amyl or octyl derivative for the purpose of imparting an excellent hand to the fabric.
