titleOfInvention | Improvements in plastic compositions |
abstract | Water - insoluble alcohol - soluble polyvinyl partial acetal resins are mixed with glyoxal or pyruvic aldehyde. Acetals specified are formals, acetals, propionals, butyrals, valerals, and hexals. Plasticisers such as castor oil, oleic acid, triethylene glycol, dibutoxyethyl phthalate, butyl phthalyl butyl glycollate, triethylene glycol di-(2-ethyl hexoate), triethylene glycol di-(butyryl lactate), triethylene glycol dibutyrate, methyl, ethyl and butyl ethers of triethylene glycol benzoate, ethyl ether of pentaethylene glycol acetate, cyclohexyl ether of ethylene glycol acetate, di-(ethoxyethyl) adipate, di-(methoxyethyl) succinate, dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl maleate, tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl tartrate, dioctyl tartrate, glyceryl diacetate, methyl and ethyl ethers of tetraethylene glycol; solvents such as acetone, ethanol, isopropanol; pigments such as carbon black, calcium carbonate, silica, zinc tetroxychromate, and titanium dioxide may be added. Phenol-formaldehyde resins such as p-tertiary butyl phenol- and cresol-formaldehyde may be incorporated. Coatings of such compositions may be baked first at 250 DEG F. and then at 800 DEG F., and may be extruded on to wires. Films cast from solutions of the compositions may be used as adhesive interlayers in laminating glass, plywood or metal sheets, leather, cloth and artificial resins. |
