titleOfInvention | Manufacture of 1:3-butylene oxide |
abstract | 1 : 3-Butylene oxide is produced by subjecting the corresponding halohydrin, e.g. 1-chlorbutanol-3, which may be obtained by reaction between hydrogen halide and 1 : 3-butylene glycol, to reaction with an alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide under anhydrous conditions and distilling off the butylene oxide continuously. Alternatively, the butylene oxide may be obtained from the oxidation products of butane with oxygen by fractionation. This fraction may be hydrolysed, e.g. with aqueous sulphuric acid, to produce 1 : 3-butylene glycol which is separated, e.g. by distillation, and employed in the regeneration of the butylene oxide. Specification 463,385, [Group III], is referred to. |
