titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to lead alkyl compounds |
abstract | Liquids comprising a major proportion of lead alkyl anti-knock agent are stabilized against deterioration during storage by adding a small amount of hydroquinone or quinhydrone, (e.g., 0.01 to 0.3 lbs. per gallon), Specified lead alkyl compounds are lead tetraethyl, lead tetramethyl, lead dimethyl, lead diethyl, lead monomethyl triethyl and lead compounds containing propyl or isopropyl groups. In the case of lead tetraethyl the liquid to be stabilized may contain 60-65 per cent. by volume of tetraethyl lead and 35-40 per cent. by volume of lower aliphatic hydrocarbon halides, e.g., ethylene dibromide, ethyl bromide, ethylene dichloride, ethylchloride. Minor diluents such as kerosene and dyes may also be present. Storage tests are described.ALSO:Liquids comprising a major proportion of lead alkyl anti-knock agent are stabilized against deterioration during storage by adding a small amount (e.g. 0.01 to 0.3 lbs. per gallon) of hydroquinone or quinhydrone.
