titleOfInvention Improvements in detergents
abstract A detergent composition in liquid, solid or paste form comprises a mixture containing an inert organic solvent insoluble in water, a complex ether consisting of an etheric compound including in its structure-in addition to 2 or more hydrocarbon groups separated by an ether linkage or ether linkages-one or more of the following strongly negative atoms or groups, the chlorine atom, the sulphonic acid or sulphate groups, together with a mahogany soap or the salt of a sulphonated fatty oil. The composition may also contain a fourth ingredient comprising an anionic or cationic wetting agent. The inert solvents specified comprise hydrocarbons, preferably petroleum hydrocarbons, such as kerosene, petroleum ether, benzene and benzine, tetrahydronaphthalene, decahydronaphthalene, isopropyl ether, dichlordiethyl ether, dichlor isopropyl ether, octyl alcohol, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, ethylene and propylene dichloride, and trichlorethylene. The substituted simple or polyethers specified comprise ether or polyether sulphonates and sulphates and particularly alkyl aryl ethers such as aryl alkyl ether sulphonate of formula C8H17. C6H4. (OCH2 CH2)4 SO3 Na, the corresponding sulphate, and also dichloroisopropyl ether. The sulphonated fatty oil constituent may comprise sulphonated castor oil, olive oil, or coconut oil. The optional wetting agents used comprise as anionic agents, alkyl aryl sulphonates, such as dodecyl benzene sodium sulphonate, and monobutyl-diphenyl sodium sulphonate and as cationic agents, cetyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride. The compositions may be diluted with water, the aqueous solutions being neutral, slightly acid or slightly alkaline. The aqueous solutions may also contain trisodium phosphate, sodium meta-silicate, soda ash, polyphosphates, hexametaphosphate and sodium pyrophosphate; neutral salts such as sodium and potassium sulphates, chlorides, citrates, tartrates and gluconates, and acids such as mineral acids, gluconic, levulinic, citric and phosphoric acids.
