Aluminium, saturated fatty acid, soap greases are stabilized to inhibit the crystallization of the soap &c. by the addition of a small proportion of a naphthenic acid or an unsaturated fatty acid of 10 to 20 carbon atoms in the molecule such as oleic acid. The compositions may also contain a small proportion of the corresponding aluminium soaps with or without free stearic acid. The greases are preferably made from a naphthene base crude oil and aluminium stearate. Other usual additives may be incorporated in the compositions particularly thickeners such as olefin polymers of preferred molecular weight of 30,000 to 200,000. The greases may be prepared in a usual, previously described, plant combining a jacketed kettle and a screw scraper chiller. |
