abstract 579,243. Optical glass. CHANCE BROS., Ltd., BASTICK, R. E., and HAMPTON, W. M. May 31, 1943, No. 8681. [Class 56] An optical glass, particularly for photographic lenses, comprises 10-25 per cent SiO2, 10-35 per cent BaO, 10-20 per cent PbO (the barium and lead oxides together not exceeding 45 per cent of the whole), B2O3 10-26 per cent together with substantial quantities of both lanthanum and thorium oxides which together do not exceed 35 per cent of the whole, the lanthanum oxide being not greater than 20 per cent. One or more of the following oxides may also be added to the composition; beryllium, zirconium, zinc and aluminium. The refractive index of the glass is greater than 1.746- 0.0021V, where V-is-the AbbÚ constant and lies between 40 and 50.
