titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to de-icing fluids |
abstract | 578,847. De-icing fluids. VERNON, W. H. J., WORMWELL, F., and LEWIS, J. A. Feb. 25, 1943, Nos. 3106/43 and 13067/45 (the second Provisional Specification being divided out of the first Provisional Specification). [Class 29] A de-icing fluid comprises a mixture of a glycol, a monohydric alcohol, and distilled water, with or without a proportion of glycerol, and having dissolved therein a corrosion inhibitor consisting of an alkali metal salt selected from the selenate, arsenate, fluorescein salt, chromate, cinnamate, and selenite, in sufficient amount to inhibit corrosion of solder, brass and copper fittings. From 0.2 per cent. to 1 per cent. of the alkali metal salt is used. In an example a mixture comprises ethylene glycol 35-40 per cent., methylated spirit (74 O.P.) 15-25 per cent., glycerol 5-10 per cent., water 30-40 per cent., to which is added 4 grammes of sodium selenate per litre. |
