titleOfInvention Extraction of iron from titaniferous ores
abstract 574,689. Treating titaniferous ores. BRITISH TITAN PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. Aug. 9, 1943, No. 12857. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1942: [Class 1 (iii)] In extracting iron from titaniferous ores by treatment thereof with strong hydrochloric acid at temperatures above 70‹C. the acid used is pretreated to remove 'sulphate ion, whereby iron extraction is improved. An alkaline-earth metal or compound thereof may be used to precipitate the corresponding sulphate which is filtered off, barium chloride being preferred. Mother liquors from the hydrolysis of titanium chloride solutions which contain sulphate ion used to coagulate the hydrous titanium oxide may be so treated and then employed for the iron extraction step.
