titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to fluorescent materials
abstract 574,494. Intensifying screens for X- ray sensitive material. TASKER, H. S., and PEARS, J. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 1964. [Class 98 (i)] [Also in Group XL] Luminescent materials are produced by firing at a temperature exceeding 600‹ C. a mixture of one or more of substantially pure barium, calcium and strontium sulphates with one or more of substantially pure lead chloride, lead bromide, leadiodide and lead fluoride. The firing may last from ¢ to 4 hours and be at a temperature within the range 800-1050‹ C. In an example using barium sulphate and lead chloride, the proportion of the latter is between 1 to 10 per cent. When utilising the material in forming X-ray screens, it may be dispersed in a carrier such as a solution of a cellulose derivative or of a colourless synthetic resin and the result coated on a paper or other support. The screen may be placed in contact with a silver halide emulsion. Alternatively, the fluorescent layer may be formed on a support and a gelatino-silver halide emulsion coated on top. If the fluorescent layer is on top of the emulsion it may be suspended in fish glue or an acid resin so that it may readily be removed by water or dilute alkali before processing the emulsion. Specifications 540,252, 557,841, [Group XL], and 571,324 are referred to.
