| abstract | A putty-like composition comprises a non-drying oil, e.g. blown castor, cotton seed or rape oil, or a mineral oil, a filler which is at least partly fibrous, and a resinous material, e.g. rosin, lime-hardened rosin, glycerol ester of rosin, or coumarone resin, e.g. in amount less than half the weight of the oil, the filler being just saturated by the oil. The filler may comprise asbestos or vegetable fibre and talc, powdered mica, &c., and may include a stearate, e.g. 2 to 15 per cent by weight of the oil, of aluminium, calcium or iron stearate to enhance the electrical insulating properties of the composition, e.g. for use in sealing sparking-plugs of internal-combustion engines against water. A coloured pigment, and a "scent" may be included. Specification 447,768 is referred to. |
