titleOfInvention Improvements in colour photography
abstract 572,227. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co., and Vittum, P. W.). July 8, 1943, No. 10892/45. Divided out of 571,344. [Class 98 (ii)] Superimposed photographic records in different colours on a single support are produced by developing an upper layer containing silver salt, but no colour coupler superposed on a layer containing colour coupler with a developing solution containing dissolved colour coupler and sufficient of a loading agent such that the colour developer does not penetrate to the underlayer during the time required to colour develop the upper layer. The material may comprise three differentially colour-sensitive silver salt emulsions, one of which is in the form of an upper layer free from colour coupler and the others both contain colour coupler adapted for colour development. The layers may be sensitive to three of the spectral regions, blue, green, red and infra-red. In example 1, a support is successively coated with a redsensitive gelatino silver bromide emulsion containing fine discrete particles of waterinsoluble water-permeable binder or oil-former containing a blue-green coupler, a greensensitive emulsion containing fine discrete particles of water-insoluble water-permeable binder or oil-former containing a magenta coupler, a yellow filter layer, and a bluesensitive emulsion. The exposed material is developed in a colour developer containing a loading agent, e.g. a yellow developer comprising 2-amino-5-diethylaminotoluene hydrochloride, sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, acetoacetanilide, acetone, isopropyl alcohol and water, to develop only the top layer and then in a developer not containing coupler, e,g. 2-amino-5-diethylaminotoluene hydrochloride, sodium sulphite, sodium carbonate, potassium bromide and water to develop the lower two layers. In example 2, the same exposed material is developed in a developer not containing coupler to develop all three layers, the unused silver halide is removed by fixing, the developed silver is bleached, and the top layer is developed with a colour developer containing a loading agent. In example 3, the same exposed material is developed and fixed as in example 2, the developed silver in the top layer only is bleached with a bleaching bath containing a loading agent, and is developed with a colour developer containing a loading agent. In all examples, remaining silver or silver halide is finally removed. Dispersions of dye-solvents may be incorporated in the sensitive material as in Specification 571,344. Specifications 427,518, 454,499, 454,622, 524,154, 524,554, 524,555, 540,368 and 541,589 also are referred to.
