abstract | Pyrazine tetracarboxylic acid is prepared by oxidising phenazine, phenazine oxide or other compound having the phenazine ring structure by treatment with an alkali metal permanganate, preferably in alkaline solution. Examples are given of the oxidation of phenazine using potassium permanganate. The free acid is liberated by treating the potassium salt formed with hydrochloric acid. |
