titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to the concentration of potassium compounds from crude minerals containing them
abstract 564,338. Wet separating. MINERALS SEPARATION, Ltd. (Minerals Separation North American Corporation). June 28, 1943, No. 10466. [Class 82 (ii)] In the separation of sylvite from a pulp containing it by subjecting the latter to a concentrating process employing a collector selected from the group consisting of aliphatic amines containing a straight chain hydrocarbon group of at least 7 carbon atoms and their soluble salts formed by their combination with acids which are relatively devoid of surface active, properties, an auxiliary agent consisting of dextrin is distributed in the pulp, which is then subjected to a separating treatment to remove the desired sylvite. The separating treatment may be carried out in a frothflotation machine or an agglomeration tabling treatment and the pulp formed from sylvinite ore and a substantially aqueous solution of the soluble ore constituents, the ore being deslimed before the collector and the auxiliary agent are added. The dextrine may-be prepared from potato, corn, casaoa, tapioca, rice or wheat starch and examples of collectors used are n-octadecylamine or its acetate, or nheptylamine or its acetate, or laurylamine hydrochloride which may be used in conjunction with a frothing agent such as pine oil or petroleum oil. Specifications 186,143 and 258,648, [both in Class 82 (ii)], are referred to.
