[Class 4] A fuselage is built of sections joined together and comprising a sheet 9 of thin ferrous metal forming a skin inside which is bonded expanded sheet metal 10 ; longitudinal or circumferential frame members, such as 15 shown in Fig. 2, may form part of the expanded metal. Sheets 9 are fitted with their edges abutting and the expanded metal bonded as shown at 21, Fig. 8, along the seam and also beyond at 22. As shown in Fig. 7 a joint-strip 19 may extend across the seam and together with the edges of the sheets be autogenously welded at 20 with the ends of the expanded metal. In Fig. 9 is shown diamond mesh 'expanded metal 30 comprising strands 31 and bonds 32 with a line of arched portions 34 having their apices connected by a line of strands 35. |
