titleOfInvention An improved process for preparing biological nutrients or feedingstuffs from scleroproteins, keratin proteins, cellulose, cellulose derivatives, and products containing same in admixture such as rags, and the like
abstract 558,889. Nutrients for micro-organisms and animals. EVERETT, S. M. May 22,1942, No. 6959. [Class 5 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] The products of an alkaline hydrolysis of a scleroprotein, wool, hair, silk. or materials containing same in admixture, such as shoddy or rags, are mixed in the required proportion with the products of an acid hydrolysis of a scleroprotein, cellulose, hydrocellulose or a cellulose ester so as to convert the hydrolysing agents into salts suitable to the metabolism of the organism or animal. The final product may be used direct or dried and may be mixed with amino-acids, vitamins or other feeding stuffs or nutrients. In an example, wool hydrolysed in hydrochloric acid is mixed with wool hydrolysed in caustic soda to form sodium chloride in the product.
