titleOfInvention | Preparation of ª‰-alanine by reduction of cyanoacetic acid |
abstract | 557,849. #-alanine. LEDERLE LABORATORIES, Inc. June 3, 1942, No. 7559. Convention date, June 19, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] #-alanine is prepared from cyanoacetic acid by a reduction process which is carried out by the gradual addition of an acetic acid solution of cyano-acetic acid to a hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen. The preferred catalyst is one prepared by reducing palladium chloride in the presence of activated charcoal and an amount of anhydrous sodium acetate in excess of that required to react with the liberated hydrogen chloride. In an example an acetic acid solution of cyanoacetic acid is added to an acetic acid suspension of reduced palladium chloride, a hydrogen pressure being maintained in the apparatus. When the theoretical amount of hydrogen had been absorbed, the solids were filtered and the solvent removed in vacuo. The #-alanine is extracted with n-butanol. |
