titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to the production of interpolyamides |
abstract | 556,946. Interpolyamides. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. April 24, 1942, No. 5507. Convention date, April 18, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] Interpolyamides are prepared by polymerising a composition comprising essentially from 35 per cent. to 48 per cent. by weight of hexamethylenediamine and sebacic acid in substantially equimolecular proportions, and from 65 per cent. to 52 per cent. by weight of tetramethylenediamine and adipic acid in substantially equimolecular proportions. Amide-forming derivatives of the diamines and dicarboxylic acids may be used. The above pairs of reactants are preferably polymerized in the form of their diamine-dicarboxylic acid salts. The interpolymers obtained have softening points not lower than 165‹ C., are very pliable, and are sufficiently soluble in hot 80 per cent. aqueous ethyl alcohol to yield 15 per cent. by weight solutions. Examples are given. Specification 461,236 is referred to. |
