titleOfInvention Colouration of textile materials
abstract 552,127. Dyeing textiles. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. (Celanese Corporation of America). Sept. 19, 1941, No. 12053. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Textile materials made of or containing cellulose ester or ether fibres are dyed by first treating the materials with a solution in an organic liquid medium of a dyestuff or a mixture of dyestuffs capable of dyeing the materials directly, and thereafter applying more of the dyestuff or mixture of dyestuffs from an aqueous bath. The organic liquid medium may contain some water but contains at least 50 per cent. of organic liquid. Specified liquids are methyl, ethyl, n propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, sec.-butyl, sec.-amyl and tert.-amyl alcohols, dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene, ethylene dichloride, ethyl acetate, isopropyl acetate, mixtures such as those described in Specification 460,575, and methylated spirit containing a small proportion of acetone. The organic liquid medium may be applied by means of the padding mangle described in Specification 469,908. In examples, (1) a cellulose acetate fabric is scoured, tenter dried, padded with a solution at 20-30‹C. of Celliton fast blue AF, 1 : 4 - aminohydroxyanthraquinone and 4 - chloro - 2 - nitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - methoxy - diphenylamine in a liquid comprising a 3 : 1 mixture of ethyl alcohol and water, dried in hot air, passed through a very dilute aqueous solution of ammonia, rinsed and further dyed on the jig with an aqueous dispersion at 80‹C. containing the same three dyestuffs, soda ash, triethanolamine and soap to obtain a level bright blue; (2) a cellulose acetate fabric is similarly dyed a medium blue, using the dyestuffs, Celliton fast blue AF, 4 - chloro - 2 - nitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - methyl - diphenylamine and 2:2<SP>1</SP> - dichloro - 6 - brorno - 4 - nitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - amino - azobenzene ; (3) a cellulose acetate fabric is similarly dyed a dark brown, using the dyestuffs, Setacyl direct discharge blue G, 4-nitroaniline # 3-chloro-N:n-di-(#-hydroxyethyl)- aniline and 4 - acetylaminoaniline # p-cresol ; (4) a mixed fabric of cellulose acetate and wool is padded as in (1) with a liquid comprising a 3:1 mixture of ethyl alcohol and water containing Celliton fast blue AF and 2:2<SP>1</SP>-dichloro- 6 - bromo - 4 - nitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - di - (# - hydroxyethyl) - amino-azobenzene, dried and further dyed on the winch with an aqueous dispersion at 80‹C. containing the same two dyestuffs, soda ash, soap, xylene and Turkey red oil ; the cellulose acetate fibres only are dyed a medium blue ; (5) a mixed fabric of cellulose acetate and viscose is padded as in (1) with a liquid comprising a 3:1 mixture of ethyl alcohol and water containing Celliton fast blue AF, 4-chloro-2- nitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - methyl - diphenylamine (or, according to the Provisional Specification, 2:4- dinitro - 4<SP>1</SP> - amino - diphenylamine), 1:4 - aminohydroxyanthraquinone, Fastusol blue LGA, Fastusol yellow LRA and Chlorazol fast scarlet 4BS and further dyed on the winch with an aqueous dispersion at 80‹C. containing the same six dyestuffs, soda ash, soap, xylene, turkey red oil and common salt to obtain a solid green shade.
