titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to motor fuels and the manufacture thereof |
abstract | 549,075. Motor fuel stabilizers. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Sept. 3, 1940, No. 13787. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1939. [Class 91] Motor fuels are stabilized by the addition of an organo-substituted borine compound having one or more hydrocarbon groups attached directly to the boron atom, or a nitrogen base addition compound of such a borine compound. The borine compounds may be represented by the general formula Rn B Xm where R represents hydrocarbon groups such as alkyl or aryl and X represents an inorganic group or molecule containing such a group, which may or may not be present. n represents the number of hydrocarbon groups and m the number of X groups. m + n must equal 3. Suitable addition compounds mentioned include ammonia, primary and secondary amines, hydrazines, or heterocyclic nitrogen compounds such as piperidine. Types of compounds particularly mentioned include the alkyl borines such as trimethyl boron and tripropyl boron, the aryl borines, such as triphenyl boron, and nitrogen base addition compounds such as triphenyl borine amine (C 6 H 5 ) 3 B.NH 3 , or triethyl borine-ethylamine (C 2 H 5 ) 3 ÀBÀC 2 H 5 ÀNH 2 . Tests are given to show the efficiency of the compounds of the invention as gum-inhibitors. |
