abstract | 546,716. Synthetic resins. McGILL, J. H., MORGAN, L. B., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 25, 1941, Nos. 1000 and 14128. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] Fabrics are first coated or impregnated with an aqueous dispersion comprising polyvinyl chloride and a plasticizing agent, the water is removed, e.g. by hot air drying, and then a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and a plasticizing agent is applied, e.g. by spreading, and heated until gelatinized. The base coating may be calendered. The dispersion may contain watersoluble thickening agents, e.g. methyl ethyl cellulose, gum tragacanth, gum arabic, polyvinyl alcohol, partially-saponified polyvinyl acetate or the sodium salt of a methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate inter-polymer. Suitable plasticizers are tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, benzyl benzoate, p-dichloro-benzene or chloro-naphthalenes. The coatings may comprise emulsifying agents, pigments, fillers and heat' stabilizers such as zinc or mercury or lead mercaptides or 2 : 4-dihydroxyquinoline or metallic salts thereof. Instead of polyvinyl chloride interpolymers thereof with acrylic acid esters or vinyl esters may be used. Specifications 469,391, 500,298, 542,141 and 542,505 are referred to. |
