abstract | 545,575. Diphenylacetophenone. ROBINSON, R., MERCER, D., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 30, 1940, No. 15846. [Class 2 (iii)] Diphenylacetophenone is prepared by condensing benzoin with benzene in the presence of sulphuric acid, oleum, phosphorus pentoxide or chlorosulphonic acid. The product is useful as an intermediate for the manufacture of medicinal compounds. The condensation is preferably effected in a solvent, e.g. benzene itself used in excess. Examples are given. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of phosphorus oxychloride as condensing agent and refers in addition to the use of syrupy phosphoric acid and sulphuryl chloride. |
