abstract | 539,252. Alkyl halides. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. May 9, 1940, No. 8348. Convention date, July 17, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 2 (iii)] Alkyl halides are produced by reacting an olefine with a hydrogen halide in an inert solvent containing not more than 2 per cent. of dissolved aluminium halide. Examples 4, 6 and 7 describe the production of ethyl chloride from ethylene and hydrochloric acid in the presence of an ethyl chloride solution containing not more than 2 per cent. of aluminium chloride, other examples being given of comparative results using higher proportions of aluminium chloride. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes the use of other metal halide catalysts such as bismuth antimony and vanadium trichlorides and ferric chloride, and includes a claim to all the examples. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
