titleOfInvention A method for recovering oil and meatmeal from whale meat
abstract 533,300. Treatment of whale meat. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR, LEVER BROS. & UNILEVER, Ltd., and BOSTOCK, B. R. Aug. 9, 1939, No. 22973. Convention date, May 20. [Class 91] Oil and meatmeal are recovered from whale meat by boiling or digestion in a rotary digester, subjecting the product to a purification in a centrifuge with an imperforate drum wall, and centrifuging the remaining liquid for recovery of the oil. It is preferred that after the digestion the majority of the oil should be separated in a gravity separation tank and the residue should be separated from the bulk of solid matters by straining, advantageously in a revolving or vibrating strainer or both, before submitting to the first centrifuging operation. The frequent stoppage of the centrifuge to remove solid matters is thus avoided. The second centrifugal treatment of the materials from the digestion is largely a treatment of a mixture of oil and glue water. There is, however, some solid matter present and for this reason the second centrifuge is preferably provided with a device for intermittent discharge of the separated solid matters. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes the treatment of any animal material to separate the oil and meatmeal. The use of a particular type of centrifugal apparatus is not essential, but after the boiling operation the products are subjected to a repeated purifying for removing and recovering solid matters. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
