titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to liquid flux compositions for welding or brazing
abstract 532,267. Fluxes. ULMER, W. L. July 20, 1939, No. 21144. Convention date, July 21, 1938. [Class 82 (ii)] A liquid flux for brazing or welding comprises methyl borate preferably in the proportion of 15-50 per cent. by volume and an organic liquid diluent consisting of a ketone ether or ester of an organic acid and containing substantially less than 50 per cent of oxygen. The flux may also contain methyl alcohol in proportion less than the borate and preferably in azeotropic proportions. Examples of the diluent are acetone, isopropyl ether and ethyl formate, and methyl or ethyl acetate. The diluent should have a boiling point of 50-80 ‹C. and when methyl alcohol is used, between 50‹ and 60‹C. In an example, a flux contains 32 per cent. of methyl borate, 12 of methanol and 56 of acetone.
