titleOfInvention Method of producing liquid nitrogen tetroxide
abstract 528,387. Nitrogen tetroxide. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. April 26, 1939, No. 12549. Convention date, April 30, 1938. [Class 1 (ii)] Liquid nitrogen tetroxide is obtained from gases containing the tetroxide and water vapour, or containing lower oxides of nitrogen, oxygen and water, by cooling the gases to a temperature not exceeding 40‹F., removing condensed water, introducing the gases into a non-lubricated compressor maintained at a temperature above the dew-point of the gases at their initial pressure, compressing the gases at a temperature not above 350‹F. and condensing the N 2 O 4 by cooling. A suitable type of compressor is such as is described in Specification 456, 054, [Group XXVIII], in which one wearing surface is of metal and another, in part at least, of graphite.
