titleOfInvention Improvements in and relating to resinous compositions
abstract 519,349. Resinous condensation products. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29830. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1937. [Class.2 (iii)] Aliphatic aldehydes, e.g., formaldehyde or acetaldehyde, are condensed with compounds of the formula CH2 #, where X and X1 are either -CN or -CX2.NHR where X2 is O or S and R is H or an organic radicle capable of attachment to N. Condensation may take place in the cold or on heating ; alkaline or acid catalysts may be present ; the aldehyde may be used in excess or deficiency. Specified compounds are methylene cyanide, cyanoacetamide, malonic diamide, N:N<1>-diphenyl malonic diamide, monothiomalonic diamide, dithiomalonic diamide, cyanthioacetamide. The products may be mixed with fillers, e.g, wood flour and alpha flock, pigments, e.g. lithopone, lubricants, e.g. zinc stearate, and dyes, e.g. blue toner: they may be used in coating compositions, for impregnating fibrous material, e.g., paper or cloth, for making laminated. material, for moulding, or as hardening agents for phenolic resins. In examples : malonic diamide is condensed with formaldehyde and the product mixed with a phenol-formaldehyde novolak and moulded ; phenol and formaldehyde are condensed in the presence of malonic diamide-formaldehyde condensate. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the nitrogenous body is of the formula This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
