titleOfInvention Production of azo dyestuffs on the fibre and of compositions therefor
abstract 516,689. Dyeing. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 4, 1938, No. 19807. Convention date, July 2, 1937. [Class 15 (ii)] Azo dyes are formed on cellulose fibre by coupling thereon N-acetoacetyl-3-chloro-4-ethoxyaniline with a diazotised aromatic amine of the benzene series carrying a chloro group and another substituent which may be methyl;- methoxy, nitro or chlorine but free from watersolubilizing groups such as COOH or SO,H. The diazo compound may be in the form of a diazoimino compound or anti-diazotate, development being effected by acid treatment. Compositions containing the components and alkali may also be applied. In the examples (1) cotton and rayon piece-goods are printed with a paste containing the coupling component, the diazoimino compound from diazotised p-chlor-o-anisidine and methyl glucamine, caustic soda and thickener, dried and acid steamed (greenish yellow); (2) and (3) similar to (1) using the diazoimino compound from diazotised p-chlor-o-toluidine and diethanolamine, and the anti-diazotate of 2:5-dichloroaniline.; 4-chloro-2-nitroaniline is also specified as a diazo component and sarcosine, ethyl taurine, proline and 4-sulpho-2-aminobenzoic acid as stabilizers. Specification 463,305 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the use of any diazo component free from water-solubilizing groups. The diazo compound may be used in any stabilized form. Other components specified are 4-brom-2-aminoanisole, 3-nitro-4-aminotoluene, o-phenetidine-azo-alpha-naphthylamine, alphaamino-anthraquinone, 3-aminocarbazole, dianisidine, p-aminodiphenyl, 4:4<1>-diaminodiphenylamine, 1 - amino - 2 - methoxynaphthalene, cresidine, aniline. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
