abstract | 514,541. Cork compositions. TENNANT, W. J. (Crown Cork & Seal Co., Inc.). May 9, 1938, No. 13842. [Class 70] In cork compositions consisting of cork granules adhered together by a binder, the binder consists of gel prepared from glue, albumen or casein and a non-aqueous solvent such as glycol or glycerine, mixed with a resin such as dammar, copal, phenol- or ureaaldehyde resin, cumaron or alkyd resin or mixtures of resins other than mixtures of phenolaldehyde and urea-aldehyde resins, and the composition contains a plasticizer consisting of a polyhydric alcohol, sulphonated castor oil or a wax such as ceresin, paraffin, carnauba or beeswax. The resin may be added in a partially cured state and hardened when in the composition. A hardener or accelerator for the resin, such as hexamethylenetetramine, oxalic or other organic acid, may be added. Wax may be introduced in admixture with latex or rubber mixture.
