[Class 2 (iii)] A process for producing a powder containing l-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) in a form in which it is protected from external influences comprises dissolving particles of the vitamin in a solution of gelatine, gum or hard sugar, drying the solution and powdering the residue. Where gelatine is used, it may be rendered insoluble by exposing the powder to the vapour of formaldehyde. Vitamin C may also be protected from external influences by dissolving it in melted fat or wax, e.g. cocoa butter, preferably with addition of finely powdered sugar, and then cooling and solidifying the product and finally pulverizing it. The products may be added to beverages, or mixed with milk powder, salt, or mustard, or used as an ingredient of meat cubes. |
