titleOfInvention Manufacture of symmetrical di-hydroxyalkylated amino-arsenobenzenes
abstract 507,186. Organo-arsenic compounds. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Dec. 11, 1937, No. 34374. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1936. [Class 2 (iii)] Symmetrical bis-dihydroxyalkylamino-arsenobenzenes are prepared by reducing the corresponding arsonic acids. The products possess enhanced therapeutic properties. According to the examples, 3 : 3<1>-di-(bis-dihydroxypropyl)- amino-4 : 4<1>-dihydroxyarsenobenzene is prepared by reducing 3-(bis-dihydroxypropyl)- amino - 4 - hydroxybenzene - 1 - arsonic acid (see Specification 447,773) with hypophosphorous acid; in a similar manner 3 : 3<1>- dihydroxy-4 : 4<1>-di-(bis-hydroxyethyl)-aminoarsenobenzene is obtained from 3-hydroxy-4- (bis - hydroxyethyl) - aminobenzene - 1- arsonic acid, 3 : 3<1> - bis - (dihydroxypropyl-hydroxyethyl) - amino - 4 : 4<1> - dihydroxyarseno - benzene from 3 - (dihydroxypropyl - hydroxyethyl) - amino - 4 - hydroxybenzene - 1 - arsonic' acid (see Specification 447,773), and 3 : 3<1>-di-(bisdihydroxypropyl) - amino - 4 : 4<1> dihydroxy - 5 : 5<1> - di - (acetylamino) - arsenobenzene from 3 - (bis - dihydroxypropyl) - amino - 4 - hydroxy - 5 - acetylaminobenzene-1-arsonic acid; in each case the arsonic acid is used as its hydrochloride and results in the formation of the arsenobenzene dihydrochloride from which the free base is obtained by neutralization with sodium carbonate and precipitation with ethyl alcohol. Specifications 226,686, [Class 2 (iii)], 484,594, and 494,249 also are referred to. Arsonic acide.-3-Hydroxy-4-(bis-hydroxyethyl)-aminobenzene - 1 - arsonic acid is prepared by reacting 3 - hydroxy - 4. aminobenzene - 1 - arsonic acid with 2 mols of ethylene oxide. 3 - (Bis - dihydroxypropyl) - amino - 4 - hydroxy - 5 - acetylaminobenzene - 1 - arsonic acid is obtained by nitrating 4-hydroxy-5-acetylaminobenzene-1-arsonie acid, reducing the nitro group and reacting the product with 2 mols of glycide.
