titleOfInvention | Improved method of forming strings or cords for medical purposes |
abstract | 506,663. Massage; medicines; sewing. MULLEN, A. C. Dec. 1, 1937, No. 33262. [Classes 81 (i) and 81 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] A length of cord employed in massaging the back of the nose and throat is made of pliant material such as cotton, silk, hemp, or rubber, and is tapered at its, ends, and waxed. When made of fibrous material the threads employed are preferably chosen of different lengths and so arranged that the cord formed by twisting them has tapered ends. The cord so formed is folded into three, the ends being shorter than the middle portion, and is again twisted to form a cord with smooth tapered ends. The finished cord is waxed, for example, by rubbing with a mixture of beeswax, olive oil, and ephedrine. When made of rubber the cord is moulded with tapered ends and a roughened surface and subsequently waxed. Suitable cords are about 1 foot in length and # inch in diameter. |
