titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to fuel for internal combustion engines
abstract An anti-detonant agent for gasoline-containing motor fuels is composed mainly or entirely of a mixture of lead diethyl-dimethyl, lead methyl-triethyl, and lead ethyl-trimethyl; organic halides, lead tetra-methyl and/or lead tetra-ethyl may be added. The agent may be mixed with the liquid fuel or injected into the intake manifold. Preferred mixtures are: (1) 45 vol. of lead dimethyl-diethyl, 30 vol. of lead methyl-triethyl, and 25 vol. of lead ethyl-trimethyl; (2) 63 vol. of (1) mixed with 23 vol. of ethylene dibromide and 14 vol. of ethylene dichloride; (3) 40 vol. of lead dimethyl-diethyl, 27 vol. of lead methyl-triethyl, 23 vol. of lead ethyl-trimethyl, 6 vol. of lead tetraethyl, and 4 vol. of lead tetramethyl. Suitably 4,5 cc. is added to each U.S.A. gallon of fuel. Fuels specified are gasoline, gasoline-alcohol, and gasoline-benzene. The doped fuel is stated substantially to inhibit knocking during uneven fuel distribution in multicylinder engines. The Specification refers to the following anti-detonants also; lead trimethyl propyl, triethyl propyl, diethyl dipropyl, ethyl tripropyl, tetrapropyl, and diethyl diisopropyl.
