titleOfInvention | Process of producing cycloproprane |
abstract | Cyclopropane is prepared by reacting with zinc upon 1-chloro-3-iodopropane or 1 : 3-diiodopropane, or upon 1 : 3-dichloropropane in the presence of iodide ions, e.g. from sodium iodide. The addition of sodium carbonate or acetamide favours the formation of iodide ions. The product possesses anaesthetic properties. According to the examples: (1) 1 : 3-dichloropropane is slowly added to a mixture of zinc, sodium carbonate, acetamide and sodium iodide maintained at about 125 DEG C.; cyclopropane distils over and is collected; (2) a mixture of 1 : 3-dichloropropane, aqueous ethanol, sodium carbonate, sodium iodide and zinc dust is heated on the steam bath for some hours and the product collected. U.S.A. Specification 2,098,239 is referred to. |
