titleOfInvention A composition for destroying vermin or other noxious organisms
abstract Compositions for destroying vermin and other organisms contain, as active ingredient, a halogenated hydrocarbon containing at least one olefinic bond and a tertiary carbon atom in the molecule. The compounds may be further substituted, as by aryl, amino, hydroxyl, and cyano groups. Diluents or carriers having insecticidal, fungicidal, or bactericidal properties may be added; for instance, hydrocyanic acid, carbon disulphide, and ethylene oxide. The preparations may be used as fumigants for grain and the like and for destroying vermin on animals, and, in the case of the less volatile compounds, as contact or stomach poisons. Examples of the active compounds are: chlor - 1 - methyl - 2 - propene - 1 (isocrotyl chloride), chlor - 1 - methyl - 2 - propene - 2 (methallyl chloride), chlor-1-methyl-2-butene-2, and similar compounds containing bromine in place of or in addition to chlorine. A composition for destroying beetles in grain consists of methallyl chloride, dichlorbutane, dichlorethylene, and heavy mineral oil. The halogenated hydrocarbons may be prepared in the manner described in Specification 418,043, [Group IV].
