titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to cellulose derivative compositions |
abstract | Compositions, e.g. moulding compositions, contain a cellulose derivative and a carboxylic acid ester in which at least one ester group is a ketonyl group. Examples of such esters are butyl acetonyl phthalate and other esters of di- or poly-carboxylic acids in which one ester group is a ketonyl group and the other group or groups are groups derived from methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, secondary butyl, normal amyl or secondary amyl alcohols, or from glycols or polyglycols or their partial ethers or esters, or from phenols or aromatic alcohols, e.g. phenoxyethyl, phenyl, cresyl, xylenyl and benzyl groups. The di- or poly-carboxylic acid may be phthalic, malonic, succinic, oxalic, tartaric, citric or trimesic acid. Examples of ketonyl groups are those derived from acetone, diethyl ketone and methyl ethyl ketone. Esters of diacetone alcohol also are included. Other ketonyl esters are those derived from benzoic, naphthenic, propionic, butyric, lactic, hydroxy butyric, and stearic acids. The composition may be employed in the manufacture of sheets, rods, tubes, blocks, artificial filaments and films. |
