titleOfInvention New monoazo dyestuffs
abstract Water-soluble monoazo dyes are made by treating the dyes obtained by coupling a diazotized p-nitroamine of the benzene or naphthalene series which does not contain sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups, with a substituted Py - tetrahydro - 3 - hydroxyquino - line of the formula <FORM:0492668/IV/1> (wherein X is hydrogen, halogen or alkyl and Y is alkyl or aralkyl) with an agent to form their sulphuric esters. Alternatively, the coupling component may be esterified before coupling. Sulphuric and chlorosulphonic acids are specified esterifying agents. In examples and a table, dyes are prepared from the following components: (diazo) p-nitraniline, 2 : 4 - dinitraniline, 2 - chloro-4 - nitraniline, 6 - chloro - 2 : 4 - dinitraniline, 2 : 6 - dichloro - 4 - nitraniline, 2 - cyano-4 - nitraniline and 4 - nitro - 1 - naphthylamine, (coupling) sulphuric esters of 1-ethyl-3-hydroxy-7 - methyl-, 1 - ethyl - 3 - hydroxy-, 1 - benzyl-3 - hydroxy-, 1 - n - butyl - 3 - hydroxy - 7-methyl- and 1 - n - butyl - 3 - hydroxy - 7-chloro - Py - tetrahydroquinoline. In one example 2 : 4-dinitraniline --> (acid) 1-n-butyl - 3 - hydroxy - 7 - methyl - Py - tetrahydroquinoline is treated with concentrated sulphuric acid for about 5 hours. The dyes give red, brown, violet and blue shades on acetate artificial silk for which they possess a good affinity. Specification 458,423 is referred to.
