abstract | 487,789. Transfers. MATTHEWS, A. G., PRIOR, S. C., and GRAY, N. V. Dec. 23, 1936, No. 35307. [Class 100 (ii)] The display layer of a transfer, which is applied to a water-soluble adhesive layer on a temporary support, such as paper, and covered with an outer adhesive layer which serves to secure the display layer to the surface to be decorated, is coated with a substance adapted to facilitate the binding thereto of the outer adhesive layer. The display layer is preferably a printing-ink mixed with a hard gum varnish and white spirit or other thinner, and is applied by the silk-screen process. After application of the display layer to the layer of adhesive, e.g. gum, starch, dextrin, or the like, it is sprinkled, while still tacky, with powdered kaolin, bauxite, or the like. The outer layer, e.g. of gum arabic, is then applied ; it may be applied in dry powder form mixed with the kaolin. According to the Provisional Specification, the display layer consists of an oil paint prepared from linseed oil, white lead, and pigment, to which is added a natural or synthetic gum or resin such as dammar, kauri, or manila, and driers in a mixture of tung and linseed or perilla oils. |
