titleOfInvention Improvements relating to preparations for combating insects and to the treatment of infected grain and flour
abstract Ketals obtained from halogenated ketones and ketals containing halogen in the alcoholic portion of the molecule or in both the alcoholic and the ketonic portions, are used as insecticides. Grain or flour may be treated to kill insect pests by incorporating the ketals therewith by scattering, atomizing, or spraying or in the form of vapour. Solid or liquid diluents or solvents or emulsifiers may be added. Suitable ketals are a : a 1-dichlor (or dibrom) acetone dialkyl ketals. Preparations for general use as insecticides consist of ketals of a : a 1-dihalogen ketones dissolved in liquid organic solvents other than ether methyl alcohol, benzene or xylene, or admixed with solid extenders; emulsifying agents may be added. A solution of a : a 1 - dichloracetone - dimethyl ketal in petroleum may be used for spraying flies. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use as insecticides of halogenated ketals in general dissolved in or admixed with solid or liquid diluents, solvents or emulsifiers in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
