titleOfInvention Improvements relating to the prevention of corrosion in metal articles
abstract 481,606. Preventing corrosion. WINN & COALES, Ltd., and COALES, F. B. Sept. 17, 1936, No. 25359. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] Fabrics for use as wrappings for preventing corrosion of metal articles are rot-proofed by impregnation with a solution of an alkali metal bichromate or permanganate, the solvent is removed and a composition serving as a protective agent against chemical and electrolytic influences, e.g. petroleum jelly or mineral oil residue, is incorporated in the fabric. In the example, the fabric is impregnated with an aqueous solution of potassium bichromate, dried by hot air, by direct heating or in a vacuum drier and passed while still hot through a bath of petrolatum at 160‹ C. Surplus petrolatum is removed by pressure rolls and the fabric finally passed into petrolatum containing fillers such as china clay or talc, and, if desired, mineral oil residue, tar, indiarubber, guttapercha, vegetable oils and resins. Specification 293,835, [Class 140], is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers also to flavine as an impregnant for the fabric.
