titleOfInvention Manufacture of dyestuffs of the triarylmethane series
abstract Dyestuffs of the triarylmethane series are prepared by condensing one molecular proportion 3- or 5-hydroxytrimellitic anhydride or molecular proportion of an N-substituted meta aminophenol, and further condensing the resulting N-substituted 2 - (41 - amino - 21 - hydroxy) benzoylcarboxyhydroxy-1-benzoic acid with a compound having the formula <FORM:0480328/IV/1> in which X is a reactive hydrogen atom and R is aryl. The dyestuffs dye animal fibres orange or blue tints and may be used for chrome printing on cotton and artificial silk other than acetate artificial silk. The dyestuffs may be chromed on the fibre or in substance. To facilitate the condensation, p-toluenesulphonic acid, methylsulphuric acid or sulphuric acid may be used; in the latter case, sulphonation is effected. In examples: (1) the diethylaminodihydroxycarboxy-o-benzoylbenzoic acid, obtained from diethylamino-m-phenol and 5-hydroxytrimellitic anhydride is condensed with azo dyestuffs prepared as follows from (a) resorcinol and diazotized 1-amino-2-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid, (b) resorcinol and diazotized 1-amino-2-naphthol, (c) resorcinol and diazotized 5-sulpho-3-aminosalicylic acid, (d) resorcinol and diazotized p-aminosalicylic acid, (e) resorcinol and diazotized o-aminophenol, (f) resorcinol and diazotized o-anisidine, (g) resorcinol and diazotized 1-amino-2-naphthol and (h) resorcinol and diazotized 1-amino-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid; (2) the dimethylaminodihydroxy carboxybenzoylbenzoic acid, obtained from 5-hydroxytrimellitic anhydride and m-dimethylaminophenol is condensed with azo dyestuffs prepared from diazotized 1-amino-2-naphthol and resorcinol and from diazotized p-amino salicylic acid and resorcinol.
