abstract | An X-ray contrast medium comprises barium sulphate and a dextrine, advantageously an erythro-dextrine. The medium may have a dextrine content of 5-10 per cent. Taste and/or odour correctives may be present, powdered sugar, cacao, candied lemon peel and vanillin being specified as examples of the former, and vanillin and lemon oil as examples of the latter. In an example, barium sulphate, dextrine and a small quantity of vanillin are mixed in a ball mill. Reference is made to known contrast media consisting of barium sulphate with additions of sugar, dextroses, laevuloses, polyhydric alcohols such as mannite or erythrite, agar-agrar, tragacanth, gelatine, carragheen and other mucilages, and paraffin. |
